Samuel de Champlain, an astrolabe, and the oaks

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

The Champlain Oaks project is hosting two meetings to provide you with details on the topics outlined above.

In 1613, Champlain was the first European to explore this part of the Ottawa River. That means that the City of Ottawa is celebrating the 400th anniversary of this exploration this year.

Daniel Buckles and Debra Huron have been researching the history of our neighbourhood.

We’ve come up with some tidbits that we think you’ll find intriguing. We will present this to you at the Champlain Park fieldhouse on these dates and times:

  1. Thursday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  2. Sunday, Jan. 20, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Come to one of these meeting to find out about Champlain’s connection to Champlain Park, and to talk with your neighbours about how Champlain Park can mark this 400th anniversary.
