Going nutty on Jan. 18

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Celebrating Biodiversity

The Champlain Oaks has accepted an invitation from the Eastern Chapter of the Society of Ontario Nut Growers to do a presentation about bur oaks on Saturday, January 18. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 1 p.m.

Our intention is to provide details about the way acorns from bur oaks have served as food for aboriginal people. Other acorns are not as easily used as food. Another topic we plan to explore is how the Champlain Oaks could serve as a source of rich and hardy genes for nut growers outside of this neighbourhood. Here are details about the Nut Growers.
