Bur oak planting in May

We've been talking about cloning the Champlain Oaks, but good old-fashioned sexual reproduction also happens, and people like Daniel Buckles are planing baby bur oaks this spring in places where they are likely to thrive.

The saplings he plants are mostly tiny sprouts that come up in the spring--thanks to the forgetfulness of squirrels.

The giant bur oak trees in our neighbourhood are also planted by squirrels. None of them was planted by the city or by residents--except for the new saplings propegated by Daniel Buckles in his backyard nursery of bur oaks.
